YCAP / IBA Young Practitioners Symposium on May 29, 2014

On May 29, 2014, YCAP and the International Bar Association Young Practitioners’ Symposium organized a Symposium entitled, “A Lawyer’s Beauty Contest: Which Path to Choose Between Commercial and Investment Arbitration?”

The panel featured Tina Cicchetti (Fasken Martineau), Patrick Pearsall (U.S. Department of State) and Lisa Tomas (Arnold & Porter) engaging participants in a mock “partner-associate” brainstorming session on how to advise a fictional client faced with the choice between commercial or investment treaty arbitration to resolve a dispute with a state entity. Peter Rees Q.C. (Thirty Nine Essex Street, London) and Luca Radicati (Radicati di Brozolo Sabatini, Milan) acted as senior commentators during what proved to be a lively and entertaining event with more than 40 attendees.

The Symposium was followed by a reception at the CN Tower where YCAP and IBA members had the opportunity to socialize and network with arbitration practitioners from around the world.  The YCAP/IBA Symposium was held in conjunction with the International Bar Association as a prelude to its Friday May 30 international arbitration forum entitled “International Arbitration Today: First Principles, Current Practices and Latest Trends,” which features several of the world’s leading arbitration practitioners.
